EDT SYLLABUS
EDT LOGBOOK
Essential Driver Training (EDT)- a course of 12 modules
1 EDT for 1 hour, every two weeks, over a period of 6 months.
The EDT course does not include teaching a total nervous beginner to drive
12 EDT modules not enough time to reach test standard driving
Extra lessons required plus practice for 3 hours in between each
"Expected outcomes" achieved before each EDT module is stamped by your ADI
The RSA have not properly educated the public on the whole EDT syllabus. The public believe that all that is required is to do 12 compulsory driving lessons with an ADI instructor before a learner driver can sit the driving test. I'd like to inform you that I can get you to a good standard of driving but I cannot get a brand new nervous beginner to test standard driving in only 12 hours. Please be aware that more driving lessons will be required as well as practice with your sponsor.
I'll begin to stamp your logbook once each EDT lesson has been completed provided that a relatively competent level has been achieved by the learner driver. Each EDT module has a list of objectives that need to be covered with a combination of extra driving lessons and/or practice with your sponsor. Unfortunately, If you don't have a sponsor to practice, I have to inform you that you will need more driving lessons to complete the EDT process. Every learner is different with different levels of learning so please keep that in mind if a friend is doing the EDT at the same time as you. They may be a step ahead of you and pick it up quicker so don't worry about competing with them. I'll bring you through the process at a pace that suits you but I will also challenge you each time to develop you driving ability and confidence.
LEARN TO DRIVE FIRST:
I've identified that EDT MODULES 2,3 6,7,8 & 12 are covered in my lesson plan. This means that if you are an "advanced beginner", I can stamp and sign off on the above EDT LESSONS.
This is why learning to drive first will build a solid foundation where the learner driver has a competent standard of all aspects of driving and is now ready to complete the remaining EDT modules. If you do the 12 lesson course first I guarantee you will not need as many lessons in between each EDT so that you will not have to repeat any. This will save you a small fortune in the long run.
